Diodon Orbicularis – Prickly Bottlefish is a one-of-a-kind framed archival reproduction of an 18th-century natural-history illustration from the celebrated fish studies of German naturalist Marcus Elieser Bloch.

Depicting the distinctive prickly bottlefish, the original natural-history plate was illustrated by J. F. A. Krüger and engraved by Ludwig Schmidt. Its rounded form, distinctive spiny appearance and finely observed details capture the fascination with marine life that defined historic natural-history illustration.

At ACME Framing, the archival reproduction has been transformed through a bespoke framing treatment designed specifically around the character of the artwork.

A shimmering champagne-gold, scale-like mat surrounds the print, its texture and subtle lustre chosen to reference the reflective, glistening qualities of marine life.

The artwork is housed in a bespoke black embossed frame, creating a strong contrast with the champagne-gold mat while giving the historic illustration depth and contemporary presence.
